FAQ

Photos

  1. Can I scan my own photos and send you the files?

Yes you can, but please follow these guidelines:

    - Make sure you remove pictures from all frames/scrapbooks first.
    - Clean glass surface of scanner and any dust/debris from each photo.
    - Scan at 300 dpi (dots per inch) or higher and 16 million colors or higher. Do not scan at lower settings than these.
    - Save each image as either a .JPG, .PNG, or .TIFF using the best quality settings. .JPG files are recommended for our slide-shows and are also smaller in size.
    - Use descriptive names for your files and number them in the order you wish to see them displayed in the slide-show.

NOTE: The quality of your DVD Memoree depends on how well your photos are scanned, so please practice the above guidelines.

  2. How long is each photo displayed on the show?

About 4-6 seconds depending on the number of photos, music length, and transitions used.

  3. How long of a slide show will my photos make?

50 photos is about 6 to 8 minutes long.
100 photos is about 8 to 12 minutes long.
150 photos is about 12 to 14 minutes long.
500 photos is more than an hour long.

Remember, your photos can be split into groups called Chapters on the DVD menu, which would lessen the playback time of each group.

  4. What size photos can you scan?

    2x3 up to 8x10.

  5. What types of photos should I use for my slide-show?

Horizontal (landscape) pictures look better on screen than vertical (portrait) ones. You can use vertical photos, but there will be black bars of empty space on either side when being displayed on the screen.

  6. How do I tell you the order I would like the pictures to be displayed?

If you're giving us paper photos, please use small post-it notes (on the back) with numbers from first to last displayed or write them on the backs in light pencil. When submitting digital images, please name each file with a number at the end with the proper order. If you will be using multiple chapters on the DVD, then also add this to paper photos or name the image files with the additional chapter information.

  7. Can I send slides or negatives for you to scan?

No. We only accept paper photos for scanning at this time.

  8. Can I use pictures taken by a professional in my slide-show?

If the copyright holder to a photo (paper or digital) is a professional photographer, you will need to get a signed release from them stating you are given permission to use their photos in the slide-show. DVD Memoree will not be held responsible for copyright violations.

Slide Show

  1. What are transitions?

Transitions are the effects that happen to your photos as they move from one to the next in the slide-show. You can watch a demo of our available transitions to see which you'd like to use in your slide-show. Even though there are many available, we've found that keeping it simple is key to creating a great DVD Memoree. Many times, using a simple fade transition throughout your production gives a professional and elegant appearance by itself.

  2. What are title slides?

Title slides are extra slides that are inserted between certain photos in your slide-show that give additional information. Typically, they have a black or solid-colored background with text that labels or introduces the upcoming slide. Backgrounds, colors, and fonts can all be changed.

  3. How are special effects (SFX) different from other transitions?

Our special effects are made up of several smaller effects that add a new kind of experience to your slide-shows. Most are used at the very beginning as introductions to all the slides that will follow. Typically, they set the mood or "feel" for your DVD Memoree. Watch a demo of our available SFX in real-time to get an idea.

  4. Can I use video in my slide-show?

Yes. We can insert video in the slide-show itself or as a background in the DVD menu or chapter buttons. We only accept .mpg (.mpeg) and .avi files, each clip must be 3 minutes or less in length and you must hold the copyright. Your clips will be used as-is, meaning no extra editing or processing will be performed.

  5. Can I use an audio recording/narration in my slide-show?

Yes. All recordings must be on a CD in either a .mp3 or .wav file. No editing or additional changes will be performed by DVD Memoree; we will insert the recordings as-is and you must be the copyright holder.

DVDs

  1. Do I need a computer to watch my DVD Memoree?

No. You can watch your DVD using most players used with Televisions, just like any movie. Additionally, you can watch on a computer if you have a DVD player and software for viewing. You'll be able to play, pause, stop, and seek backward or forward with your remote. We use DVD+R media, which is compatible with most DVD players, but you can also check your player's compatibility at the Video Help web site.

  2. What are chapters?

Chapters are groups of related photos that you can choose from on the DVD menu. If you have a large project that you'd like to separate into smaller themes, this is a great way to do so.

  3. Can I purchase copies of my DVD Memoree?

Yes. You can order as many copies as you'd like and will be given volume discounts as well. We keep a master copy of your project for records, so you can order copies months after the initial project. Check out our current pricing for more information.

  4. How will my DVD be labeled?

DVD Memoree uses a special process that embeds text or an image directly onto the disc itself. This image is in gray scale and gives a unique and elegant look to the finished product.

Billing

  1. What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept cash and check from local customers, as well as Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express through PayPal. Visit the PayPal Security Center for information on buyer safety in making payments online. If paying by check, we must wait for it to clear before your project can be started.

  2. Do you accept partial payments?

No. Payment must be received in full before work is started on your project.
